Building a Bold Digital Home for Climate Action in Lanarkshire.

Lanarkshire Climate Action Hub

Date

Feb - Mar 2025

The Brief

The Hub asked us to develop a standalone website for the Lanarkshire Climate Action Festival — one that would feel distinct from their main organisation site but remain true to their purpose and brand.
The new site had to do more than just look good. It needed to:
  • Showcase a growing programme of events
  • Make it easy for residents to find and attend events
  • Support community groups and businesses in hosting their own activities
  • Appeal to future sponsors and partners
  • Be built entirely in Joomla 5.2, to align with their existing CMS infrastructure
They supplied brand guidelines and wireframes, as well as a full visual design — we handled the rest.

What We Did

We brought the design to life using a completely bespoke Joomla 5 template, built from the ground up to deliver performance, accessibility, and flexibility. Every element — from headers and accordions to filters and share functionality — was developed with scalability and user experience in mind.

We also integrated FontAwesome, Google Fonts, Adobe Fonts, and ensured all front-end animations and illustrations could be easily swapped or disabled via the CMS.

Despite a tight turnaround, we went above and beyond to deliver the site on schedule — hitting the client’s late-February launch goal without compromising on quality.

Key features included:

  • Interactive map built with Leaflet.js, allowing users to explore events by location, theme, and accessibility
  • Custom event programme using Joomla core articles and custom fields — no reliance on third-party components
  • Responsive layout built with UIKit and Bootstrap, fully accessible and optimised for mobile
  • SEO-friendly structure, targeting key festival-related terms
  • Seamless content updates for the client via Joomla’s native admin panel

The Result

The site launched in March 2025, just in time to support the festival’s second year. With a bold, inclusive design and easy-to-use navigation, it’s already laying the foundation for stronger community engagement — and a more visible, recognisable climate initiative in Lanarkshire.
It’s now the go-to hub for anyone looking to host, take part in, or support the region’s biggest celebration of grassroots climate action.
